On the 18th February, 13 people took part in our Off The Fence Sponsored Night Walk along the Brighton coastline to help raise crucial funds for the work. We were delighted to have such a great team take part in this challenge in order to support our life-saving work and help support the lives of so many people in desperate need across the city.
With their walking boots on (and fancy glow sticks!) the group set off from the Hove Lagoon to make their way to the West Pier and back. Our Night Walkers met new people, socialized and appreciated the fresh night air along by Brighton’s coastline under a beautiful clear sky. A miracle as Storm Doris was soon to unfold!
Everyone managed to complete the 5k challenge having reached the West Pier and back. The evening was then perfectly topped off afterwards when the group settled to have a hot drink!
We asked Dan Wood one of the Night Walkers a few questions about his experience of the event…
What made you want to take part?
"I’ve supported Off the Fence for many years and wanted to do something to help make a difference to those sleeping rough on the streets of Brighton and Hove. It was also a personal challenge to me as I’m registered severely sight-impaired, so to do this at night when I don’t like going out in the dark was a big deal for me."
Did you enjoy it?
"I had a great time! Everyone made sure I was kept safe and it was good to meet other supporters taking part. Knowing I had raised a good sum of money for Off The Fence made it extra special."
What would you say to others considering doing an event?
"Go for it - 100%, as it is an amazing and vital work in our great city. Every little helps and it makes a big difference to those who need a helping hand."
The entire group managed to raise over £1000 for Off The Fence with the figure still rising. A huge congratulations to everyone who participated in the Night Walk and thank you to all who helped support them in this challenge.
