At the beginning of February some of our Schools Team attended the annual Hand-in-Hand Conference, held at the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne, to promote the Prayer Spaces in Schools initiative. Our Schools Team have had the privilege of offering Prayer and Reflective spaces to schools in Brighton and Hove, and the surrounding area, for the last 4 years. So when asked to help out with a Prayer Space themed exhibition stand at this annual children’s ministry conference, they were all too happy to assist.

Suzanne (Off The Fence schools worker) was joined by Adele (our former Schools Team Manager, recently retired after 20 faithful years with Off The Fence) and Emma from Brighton and Hove City Mission schools team, to run the exhibition stand for the weekend event and facilitate an afternoon seminar titled ‘Children, Spirituality and Prayer’. Adele was also interviewed at the Friday evening celebration event at the conference, speaking about her experiences of offering Prayer Spaces to schools.

The team spoke to many delegates over the weekend, most of whom had heard of Prayer Spaces in schools and wanted advice on how to start a Prayer Space in their own local school. The seminar was well attended, with 80 delegates coming together to hear about children’s learning styles, why praying in school is good for everyone and to also ‘Have a Go’ at designing their own prayer activity.

All in all, this was an excellent weekend and hopefully a blessing to all who attended.
