Running advice from 10 year marathon veteran and Antifreeze employee Nigel Sarjudeen

Nigel has been working at Off The Fence for 4 years and has been really focusing on community engagement among the homeless. He can often be found leading community hour, wearing his ‘Weakest Link’ waistcoat (‘cos he was on it) as he leads the very popular quizzes which promote social interaction, team work, engaging your brain and a sneaky dose of education too.

He has run the Brighton Marathon for the last 10 years straight, and here he gives his top tips for surviving and even enjoying the epic run!

  1. Concentrate on length of time on your feet more than distance. You’re going to be on your feet for over 5 hours so working on that is really important

  2. Start slower than you think you need to

  3. Don’t be afraid to walk. Even after 10 years, I still need to walk a bit of it!

  4. Listening to music doesn’t always help. It stops you hearing all the encouragement from the crowds and can also stop you being aware of any emergency services approaching

  5. Enjoy it!
